FORScan — Ford vehicles ship with backup camera wiring pre-installed. The harness is there, the module is there. FORScan activates the feature in software by flipping a PID. Same hardware, software-unlocked.
BMW & ZOLL — BMW shipped heated seats as a subscription. ZOLL ships every cardiac monitor as a 12-lead, then gates it to 3-lead in software. It actually costs more to build the gated version because of the software lock. The capability is already in the hardware.
